Kraken

Sitting in a cafe on the beach, Calvin is enjoying some time off from his job. After the goblins, he just needed some time off. He had carried out three missions for Deville, and he had the half-elf before that. Calvin was drinking a late as he heard a scream.

“Help! Help! I need help God damn it!” A man in his 40s yells. Calvin goes to see what is the commotion about, and he sees that he was pulling a lady in her mid 20s from the ocean.

“She’s heavier than she looks,” the man pulling her says. Calvin nows that this is not the case. He sees a greenish-purple tentacle slowly trying to drag her down. Calvin discreetly pulls out his newly bought magical dagger and murmurs ignis, the magic word of fire, and his dagger is set ablaze. Since it is magical, non-magicals can’t see it or the flame. Calvin is moving in ways as if trying to help the man, but instead is burning the tentacle for it to release the girl. Once the tentacle lets go, the man starts pulling her with ease. Calvin calls 9-1-1 to tell them of the incident.

“Thanks for helping me,” the man says.

“No problem,” Calvin replies.

” By the way, do you know what that weird green-purplish tentacle was?” the man says.

“How did you see that?” Calvin asks bewildered.

“I don’t know, I also sometimes see weird green things scurrying about, taking pieces here and there,” the man said.

“Those are goblins and the tentacle was a kraken.” Calvin replies.

“How do you know these things?” The man asks.

“I’m an elf, and I’m pretty sure you have some magical blood in you too,” Calvin answers.

“Wait what?” The man asks.

“I’ll explain later, I’m Calvin, no last name,” Calvin says.

“Peter Samson,” the man replies.

They walk into Calvin’s rental apartment so that he can teach Peter some magic. They went at it for hours and he finally learned how to use magic for fire and ice. For the rest of the hot afternoon, they set out a course of action on how to either eliminate or stop the kraken. First, Calvin would try to lure it onto the surface by taunting it. Next, Peter would use Ice to freeze the surface of the water, then Calvin would rush to the kraken to see what it was doing, and if provoked or given a good reason for, Calvin attacks with the Fire spell.

The next day, Peter and Calvin set their plan in motion. Calvin walks to the edge of the water and murmurs ambulabo aqua, the magic word for Water Walking. Calvin starts walking on water and starts throwing trout into the ocean, a kraken’s favorite treat. Slowly, tentacles are rising to the surface to catch the fish, and Calvin yells ” Now!” to Peter, and he starts saying the magic word for Area Freeze. The ocean surrounding the kraken, but it can still speak telepathically. Calvin asks the kraken in its head why is it so close to land. The kraken answers that it is a outcast from its school, and had nowhere else to go. Calvin replies back that its fine to live here, as long as he doesn’t drag down anymore people beneath the ocean. The kraken agrees, and Calvin throws fire at the ice to melt it, and swims back to shore.

Later that evening, at the same cafe where Calvin was at the beginning of this adventure, Peter and Calvin were sitting outside enjoying a sunset after a hard day’s work. Peter tell Calvin that he would like to join him in his adventure, and Calvin says “Sure, why not?” They end the day laughing with each other about some things or other.
