On a bright Sunday morning, Calvin, an elf, is in a coffee shop buying a small latte with a blueberry scone to celebrate having his car finally fixed.. As Calvin sits down, his phone starts ringing.
“Who the hell would be calling on a Sunday,” Calvin mutters while eating the scone. He picks up. “Who is this?” Calvin asks.
“I’m surprised you don’t remember me, Cal,” the man on the phone says.
“Damn, is it really you Deville? And for God’s sake and your own, don’t call me Cal” Calvin replies sternly.
“Take it easy, I work for a special division in the army that works on magical beings, and well, we have every resource except one.” Deville says.
“Yeah, and what is it? Me? And lastly, since when do you work for the army?” Calvin answers with an aggressive tone.
“Well not you, but your skills and about a year ago.” Deville tells him.
“What’s the difference, what’s the pay, and okay.” Calvin replies intrigued.
“There is a difference and you will be payed 5 grand as a payment for each completed task.” Deville answers confidently.
“Okay, fine, when do I start?” Calvin asks.
“Now. Your mission is to try and make ogres go away, or at least calm them down. Oh and finally, see if they know anything about missing people. I’ve heard that they are taken to become swampers.” Deville answers.
He hangs up, leaving Calvin slightly ticked off. Calvin walks back to his car and revs the engine. Deville had given him the address of a bar that the ogres frequent. On the road, Calvin sets the GPS to the location and gets there within 20 minutes. As he arrives, he hears that there is a fight going on inside the bar. As Calvin enters, he sees that there is indeed a fight, and decides to stay out of it. With his enhanced eyesight, he sees that the ogres are in the middle of the fray. Once the fighting dies down, Calvin walks up to the injured ogres. He starts to tell them they got to stop the fights, but they were pugnacious. As Calvin tries to strike a deal with them, two more ogres are looming ominously in the shadows. Calvin tries to mollify the ogres with promises of meat, but the ogres are derogatory. Finally, the ogres agree. As Calvin leaves, he glances back and asks them if they know anything about missing people, but the ogres deny knowing anything.
Since his mission was complete, Calvin calls Deville to transfer the money to his account because he completed his first mission. After the call, Calvin does what he does after every mission. He crashes into his bed for a good nights sleep.
